Seasons of Life by Audrey Cofield

Curved Corner

Perusing

Do you read for enjoyment or past time,
Or, a yearning to learn something new,
Or, scantily flip through for prestige
Not caring how much you imbue?

Our news-stands are crowded with literature,
That should cause us to wince in shame,
Yet he, who continues to buy it
Can scarcely be absolved of the blame.

Oh! to return again to great authors,
With depth of feeling and grace,
Debarring our libraries of vileness,
Putting, uplifting books in their place.
